About the Project

This is a small private blockout project where I played around with the "Horror Engine" game kit of the UE4 marketplace. The goal of the project was to improve my Level Design workflow and skills.

Since it was sure I wanted to make a horror game I tried to use Outlast as a reference for the players mechanics because i wanted to focus on psychological horror without combat elements.

I started with the documentation and Level Design concepts (you can find the documents below)  to have a good foundation for the blockouts. Furthermore I tried to deal with a suitable narrative design, which I built into the game via notes and diary entries.

After I had worked out a basis for the game I started with the blockouts which I divided into different areas and maps. For the forest I also used the "Dark Forest" asset pack which you can also find in the UE marketplace. The asset pack gave me the assets I used with the landscape tool to add the right atmosphere.

With the great basics the Horror Engine game kit gave me, I added events to the blockout.
